MAKS (Russian: МАКС, Russian: Международный авиационно-космический салон, International Aviation and Space Salon) is an International Air Show held near Moscow, Russia on Zhukovskiy LII air field. The first show, Mosaeroshow-92, was held in 1992. Since 1993, it was renamed to its current name and is held on odd years (MAKS-1993, MAKS-1995, MAKS-1997, MAKS-1999, MAKS-2001, MAKS-2003, MAKS-2005, MAKS-2007, MAKS-2009, MAKS-2011).

MAKS is an important event in Russian business. Although it started mainly as an entertainment event, the show soon became a marketplace where Russian airplane manufacturers could find export contracts and Russian air carriers could find foreign contacts. The whole event became important through CIS and neighboring countries, due to similarities of the market.

The most recent (MAKS-2011) took place on 16-19 August 2011 and is scheduled to close on August 21

Lockheed, Chengdu or Sukhoi? ? ?

Lockheed Martin  is an American global aerospace, defence, security, and advanced technology company with worldwide interests. It was formed by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta in March 1995.

Lockheed Martin is one of the world’s largest defense contractors; In 2009, 74% of Lockheed Martin’s revenues came from military sales. It received 7.1% of the funds paid out by the Pentagon.

Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAC) is a Chinese aerospace conglomerate that manufactures aircraft parts as well as designs and manufactures combat aircraft. It was founded in 1958 (as Chengdu State Aircraft Factory No.132 Aircraft Plant) to be a supplier of aircraft for the Chinese military. Currently it is a subsidiary of  AVIC I.

The Chengdu conglomerate designed and now produces the Jian 10(J-10) medium-weight multi-role fighter that is considered to be one of the most advanced in China’s inventory, as well as the JF-17 light-weight multi-role fighter that is produced in cooperation with Pakistan.

Previously JIAN -10 or Chengdu j-10 was challenging f-16’s f-18’s etc in air and now Chengdu J20 is going to create trouble for Raptors and F-35 Lightning ||…

phew.. American weapon and defence specialists and analysist  are considering China a great threat in future..

now comes

Sukhoi Company (JSC) is a major Russian aircraft manufacturer, headquartered in Moscow, famous for its fighters. It was founded by Pavel Sukhoi in 1939 as the Sukhoi Design Bureau .

It comprises the JSC Sukhoi Design Bureau located in Moscow, the Novosibirsk Aviation Production Association (NAPO), theKomsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO) and Irkutsk Aviation.

Now this is interesting.. Sukhoi and Lockheed had been rivalries from years, but now both are facing a new competitor in the name of CHENGDU!

The most interesting thing is that countries like Canada, Australia, Brazil etc which are the permanent buyers of Lockheed products,  are considering Chengdu to for the FIFTH GEN fighter. i have used the word “to” because, these countries have already placed orders for F35 lightning 2 😉

But what about Sukhoi? where do Sukhoi stands???

Sukhoi is among one of the best aircraft manufacturers. their most recent project, Sukhoi Pak/ Fa will also be a milestone BUT the problem is, the buyers are more likely to be attracted towards Lockheed and Chengdu! Even India ( one of the biggest buyer of sukhoi products ) has contacted America for F 35.

Sukhoi corporations must seriously take it into account.

Russian fifth-generation fighter to make first public flight

Russia’s Sukhoi T-50 fifth-generation fighter, also known as PAK-FA, will perform its first public flight at the MAKS-2011 air show near Moscow in August, Nikolai Zanegin, Deputy General Director of Russia’s Aviasalon company, said on Wednesday.

“Numerous visitors will see the fifth-generation fighter in the sky for the first time ever at the air show,” Zanegin said in an interview with Russian magazine National Defense.

The Sukhoi T-50 fighter is being developed by the Sukhoi design bureau and built at a plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in Russia’s Far East.

The first prototype conducted its maiden flight in January 2010 and has so far carried out over 40 test flights. Two more prototypes are at various stages of testing. The Russian Air Force has said it had plans to acquire over 60 T-50 fighters after 2015.

Although the T-50’s specifications remain classified, reports indicate that the design incorporates the latest fighter jet developments, including advanced stealth capability, supersonic cruising speed, and integrated control and avionics systems.

Military experts say that the T-50 will compete with the Lockheed Martin F-22, the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II and the Eurofighter Typhoon from the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS).

The MAKS-2011 air show will be held at Zhukovsky outside Moscow on August 16-21. In all, 627 companies, including 473 Russian and 154 foreign, have registered to take part in the air show as of June 1.
